Popup saying I need Microsft .Net 3.5 to run BYN201

Ciardi6

Question

Have a fairly new Dell XPS running W10 OS.  Have BYN102 so thought I would upgrade to latest version.  When I try to run the BYN setup I get a popup (attached)post-8963-0-76029200-1475248751_thumb.png saying this application "requires" MS .Net 3.5.  "If you do not install .Net 3.5 the application will NOT work properly.  Do you want to down load it now?"  It redirected me to the MS download page.  I dutifully downloaded the .Net 3.5 only to discover it is not compatible with Windows 10, it's from 2008.  Is this popup coming from Windows or your BYN?  Can I ignore it, since .Net 3.5 is over 8 years old?

No you must have .NET 3.5 for BYE to work correctly. Microsoft does some really dumb things and version numbering for .NET is one of them. The fact is that .NET 4.0 and .NET 4.5 do not replace .NET 3.5 they enhance it and extend it, but depending on the needs of the applications you install you may still need .NET 3.5 installed and active.

I have purposely stayed away from Windows 10 so my PCs are still back on Windows 7. Windows 7 came with .NET 3.5.1 installed, but not activated...Another MS mistake! I had to go into the Control Panel's Programs and Features applet and activate it. Hopefully you only need to do something similar.

I will also say that because .NET 3.5.1 was included as part of Windows 7, even though it was not activated, it was not possible to do as the dialog suggests and download and install it. That may be an opportunity for Guylain to improve the setup program.

Whoa!!!

Before reverting back to a previous version of Windows. You should read this Microsoft article that describes how to activate the .NET 3.5.1 that is pre-installed and part of Windows 10.

Unfortunately when I tried to install .Net 3.5 on my Windows 10 it said it could not update.  Seems that Windows 10 doesn't support .Net 3.5.  Guess I have to revert to Windows 7, with which I had no trouble.  Thanks

Windows 10 supports .net 3.5 all the way down to 2.0.  I have it installed and W10 is all I run now, including my development environment.

Regards.
