No screen for Compute stick

RaymondCY

Question

I installed BYN in a compute stick which has no monitor connected.

I then started BYN with an android tablet running a remote desktop control.

But, as soon as BYN finishing boot-up, no user interface screen was showing.

Instead, it shrinked down to  the task bar and couldn't be expanded again.

RaymondCY, I have the compute stick as well and do not have this particular issue, just FYI.   (Mine is the 2nd generation one, using RDP wrapper remote desktop)

Note, I've never tried to run BYN with a monitor attached so I'm not sure if that could be the issue when the first time you tried it, it somehow remembered that location.

Yes, I configure settings and install softwares, like PHD,BYN, with a TV connected to the HDMI socket.

In this way, I can also change the resolution so that it would displayed a full screen on my Asus Zenfone2 mobile phone.

I use "Vectir PC remote control" to communicate between win8.1 and android with wifi as the media.

Is it something to do with the apps or wifi transfer rate ?

As I said previously, there is probably nothing wrong with BYE, it is just displaying "off the screen". Here is what I mean by that...

The Windows graphical coordinate system has coordinate location (0,0) in the upper right hand corner of the monitor with the X-coordinate value increasing to the right and the Y-coordinate value increasing down the screen. When you minimize a window, Windows actually moves the window to (-10000, -10000). This effectively hides it by moving it offscreen. It is also typical that apps remember their last screen location/size so that the next time you start them up, that they appear in the same location. This can cause what you are seeing if, for example you were running an app on a second monitor, but when you restart it now there is no second monitor. It can also happen if you close an application while it is minimized (displayed at (-10000, -10000). Programmers have to take this into account by making sure that when an application is first started that it is displayed at a location that is valid for the current display situation.

I am not sure how the compute stick behaves when no monitor is attached, but this is perhaps the root of your issue.

You could try following the steps in this link to restore BYE to an on-screen location --> http://www.askvg.com/how-to-move-or-resize-an-off-screen-window-in-windows/

My guess is that BYN is being displayed, but at a screen location that makes it effectively hidden. This is because it was started without the compute stick being connected to a display.

BYN tries to display its window at the same location where it was last used.  It also tries to make sure that this location is visible on the display screen. I don't know how it behaves when there is no display screen.  For example, what does Windows return to BYN's query about the screen resolution when there is no screen.

You could try this: 1) Click on the BYN icon on the task bar; 2) Press Alt-space; 3) Press X to display BYN maximized.

With a bid fortune, I tried several key combinations and found that the most unnoticeable ones turned out to work in this case.

The magic is first press " crtl+alt, del", everything goes dark.

Then press "esc" , everything goes up ! BYN is there !
