License Validation Error Issue

Smitty14

Question

Greetings,

I purchased and downloaded the most recent software( BackyardEOS 3.1.6) and I keep getting a "License validation error".  Last year I downloaded and used the Trial version.  I purchased the Classic edition a few days ago.

When attempting to open the BackyardEOS, another widow opens up and informs me to insert my Identifier.  When I type in the case sensitive Identifier, I get  "License validation error! Application version not valid.  Please download the latest version of Backyard EOS."  I have downloaded the most current version, by the way.

Reading the forum, some other people have had similar issues with multiple versions in their "My Purchases".  Would deleting the Trial Version hopefully solve my issue? If so, how can this be deleted?

If this does not solve my issue, do you have any suggestions?

Thank you,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Okay, I was able to validate your key just fine.

1) Make sure you are using 3.1.6.

2) Make sure you are using your purchase key, the one ending with 11275.

3) Make sure you are using it with your case sensitive identifier, it is "Smitty14" with a capital S

From the error you have it looks like you are trying your 3.1.6 purchase key with 3.1.2 or earlier.

My best guest is that your icon on your desktop are still those from your trial last year and these are pointing to that older version.  Eventhough you have installed the latest 3.1.6 those icons points to the old version.

Delete all BYE icons on your desktop, then re-install 3.1.6 and you'll get new icons.   That should work.

If not please send me at email to support@otelescope.com.

Regards,

Got it!  Finally!  It must have been with the help of the transit of mercury!

But seriously, I did delete the desktop icons, deleted the software, and reinstalled the most current one with success.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

The Trial version needs an Internet connection.

I would suggest that you use the Trial version at home, with the Internet, to learn about the program's capabilities. Then when you are satisfied that it will work for your astrophotography you can purchase a permanent license. Once that license is validated, the program will not use the Internet at startup.

The trial requires Internet connection at each application startup to verify the trial validation key against the server.

This is a hard requirement and there is no way around this.  This is due to to many people changing their computer date to extend their trial period.

Check is now performed against the server date. Purchase keys do not require Internet connection.
