Nikon D750 Cable Confusion

midnight_lightning

Question

Hi,

I'm wanting Backyard Nikon for my D750 and note it is in the supported cameras list as a USB connection.

However I'm confused about what cable I need for it.

The USB cable that came with the camera is used to transfer pictures, but there is another cable socket on the camera (at the top) for use with a remote shutter release which I think might be a "mini 8 pin" whatever that is.

However I'm also wondering whether I need a DSUSB device?

Sorry, I'm totally confused, can anyone let me know what cable I need to be able to schedule say 20 x 5 minute bulb exposures using backyard?

Thanks

Mid

I have downloaded the free trial and bulb exposure seems to work but when I try the Mirror Up function (which is important for me) I get an error message saying that a configured Serial cable is required.

I'm not actually sure what a serial cable is, does that mean forking out for one of those DSUSB gizmo's?

Thanks

Mirror up is not implemented in BYN 1.0.x and it is not useful for long exposure photography.  Why do you need it?

Regards.

Mid,

The USB cable that came with the camera should be all that you need to control your camera with BYN for Frame & Focus, long (BULB) and short exposures, and Planetary Imaging.

Some older cameras (listed as "yes (serial)" under the Bulb column of the Camera Support Grid) also require a DSUSB cable plugged into the remote shutter jack, but the 750 does not.

I hope this reduces your confusion.

Refer to the BYN Camera Support Grid.  It indicates that Mirror Lockup is not supported...for any camera model.

It is a pretty useless feature for long duration astrophotography, anyway. If the mirror flipping up causes vibration in your mount that is noticeable in your images then you will likely have other issues with your mount not tracking or guiding well.  Why do you think that it is important to you?
