Wow! Didn't mean to upset anyone!!

I was referring to the latest Nikon firmware download the one which works OK with BYN. I'm using BYN 1.0.5 fine but haven't updated my DSLR firmware yet because of the reported problems. The other D5500 user said he was using the latest firmware update but I couldn't find it on the Nikon web site.

I believe that the firmware that you have found is the latest.  Several BYN users who installed the new firmware (January 2016) found that it was NOT compatible with the Nikon SDKs that were installed with BYN 1.0.4 and earlier. As soon as Nikon updated the SDKs, Guylain released BYN 1.0.5 with the latest SDK's.  There have been several reports that the new SDKs fixed the compatibility issue.

Just to say another way, this issue was not with BYN, but was instead due to breaking changes that Nikon put in their firmware update.  It appears that this is now resolved with the release of updated SDK's.

You probably gave Guylain a scare by referring to a newer firmware update, just when he thought that the issue had been addressed.

You did not upset anyone, your post was not clear to me, that is it.

Keep in mind that I read every post here and I never go to bed at night without clearing my email inbox.  This is my service commitment to you.  However, I get several emails where the questions asked are not clear to me at first read, this was one of them :(

BYN 1.0.5 was tested by a few users already with D5300 and D5500.  Some had the new firmware and some had the old firmware.  All reported that their camera connected regardless of firmware used.  Yeah!

I'm not sure where to download your specific firmware for your model.

Many apologies guys I had totally misunderstood the problems associated with the Nikon firmware and BYN. I sort of assumed that Nikon had released a firmware update which was incompatible with BYN and then released a newer firmware update to compensate for it instead it turns out that Guy had to release a newer version of BYN phew!!. Don't think the grey matter is what it used to be.

Apologies again for the misunderstanding!.

Steve

PS so its safe to do the firmware update now? I'll get my coat
