Hi Rick & Guylain,

My IT guy suggested I permanently assign the camera to Win Xp when the dialog box opens when plugging the camera cord into the USB port (alt key + operating system choice).  Usually I don't use that method of connection, as I want the option to choose Safari, Win Xp or Win 7.  Well that worked and solved the problem.  The EOS utility popped up, I closed it and the Windows file association window, started BYE, and successfully connected the camera.

Please see this thread as well.

EDIT: That thread is for BYN but if the issue is USB related then it still applies.  Also, please try EOS Utility first and confirm that EOS Utility works first and foremost; then BYE will work too :)

Hi Rick,

enable USB 2.0 isn't one of the options on the config. page.  The EOS Utility doesn't open up when I plug the camera in either, as on my Windows only machine.  Although the camera is assigned a USB port and shows up w/a drive letter.

You need to make EOS Utility work first.  Once you get this working BYE should connect as well.

George,

Showing up as a drive letter is not what you want to see. You want the camera to appear as an imaging device, not a storage device!

What camera model?

What version of BYE?

If the camera has a communication menu (in the camera), make sure that it is set to normal or computer, rather than PTP. This is true for either BYE or the EOS Utility!

Hi Rick,

I understand that.  I'm working to get the EOS utility working first.  I have the exact same Win Xp SP3, camera (Canon 60Da & 6D), and BYE v3.16 on my Sony Vaio and the EOS utility & BYE work just fine, so I'm sure its a //'s issue.  I've had these types of issues come up in the past with other software.

George,

My comments were valid for both the BYE and the EOS Utility. You need to make sure that IF your camera has multiple communication modes that the mode is NOT set to PTP.

If the camera menus do not have a communication mode setting then my guess is that you are missing the correct low-level Windows driver for your cameras.  This driver is supposed to be part of the operating system.

Hi Rick,

My Canon apparently doesn't have multiple communication modes, at least I can't find that option in the menus or manual.  I re-installed the 60 Da & 6D drivers.  No luck.  Interestingly, a dialog box opens in Xp when I plug in the USB cord that asks what program I want to use, Pisca, windows scanner & picture manager, ect, but no EOS utility or BYE??

I also have Win 7 on my Mac, so I set it up on 7 and the EOS Utility & BYE work fine.  Since my Mac file directory is shared across all 3 operating systems, using 7 will work fine.  Although I'll still see if I can get Xp to work over time.

Thanks for your help,

George
