BYE and a live internet connection

owen

Question

I noticed that when my PC was suffering from an internet connection issue BYE was not happy starting and asked for a user name. Does BYE normally require a live internet connection or was this because I had not used it for sometime?

BYE needs a live Internet connection to validate the software license. Once the permanent license has been validated, you should not need a live Internet connection.  Are you using BYE with a trial license?  That may be the reason.

It is also possible that the license may need to be re-validated during an upgrade.

Good question and I'm glad you asked on the forum so other people can benefit from this conversation in the future.

ALL trial keys require Internet connection EACH time you use the application.  It calls home each time to verify the key against the server.  This is to ensure people do not change the date on their computer and continue to use the trial indefinitely.

ALL purchase keys do NOT require Internet connection, ever.  It will try to connect and validate the key initially but if it fails it has built-in local key validation and as long as you have entered your key and identifier correctly it will let you in.  This is by design and it was implemented this way to ensure you always have access to your purchase software even in a remote location/observing site where Internet is not available.

Hope this helps,

Regards,
