Develop dithering feature for MGEN autoguider

UwSchmi

Question

Although there are no plan to support the MGEN autoguider (at least in March 2015; see Mick's post on 02 March 2015 - 06:30 PM) you should consider to develop a dithering feature for the Lacerta MGEN autoguider (which is quite popular in Europe because of its great autoguiding performance).

I'm quite sure that all the MGEN enthusiasts will applaud and make BackyardEOS their preferred astro imaging software ;-)

And no, I do not get any commission by Lacerta ;-)                   (But I'm very much convinced of that product as of backyardEOS).

Thanks for considering

Uwe

In order for Guylain to even consider putting in the Effort to add support for the Lacerta Stand-Alone AutoGuider, there would need to be a Fully Functional and Full-Featured API Designed by the Lacerta Team.  While Lacerta has recently made available their own Minimal Function PC App, there is no mention of an API being made available to 3rd-Parties.  Nor, honestly, is there any indication that anything more than "Remote PC Control of the MGEN II Keys" is enabled.  Nor any Documentation of the Interface that has been Implemented.

In order for this to be an useful API, it would need to not only allow Navigation of the On-Device Control Menus but actual Control AND Feedback for:

Auto-Guiding Setup

Auto-Guiding Start / Stop

Dither Start

Dither Completion Status

Your first Effort might need to be to get the Lacerta Dev Team involved and Committed to such Additions.

@ S3igell

"Mission accomplished..." ;-)

Telescope Austria (as the inventor, manufacturer & distributor of MGEN) send a detailed documentation of MGEN's USB interface protocol about one week ago to "support@otelescope.com".

For more information abou MGEN / Telescope Austria pls. refer to the English manual:

https://teleskop-austria.at/information/pdf/MGEN_02_LACERTA_MGEN_fw0242_manual_EN.pdf

Pls. help to convince Guylain for adding a MGEN dithering feature at BYE!

Thank you in advance & cs

Uwe

After returning from Mexico I approached the Lacerta/MGEN-Team few days ago. They welcomed this initiative and agreed to provide the requested codes. So I'm waiting for a reply of MGEN's software developer...

Will be posted asap... ;-)

Hope Guylain is ready to implement the dithering feature for MGEN...

Best Uwe
