Cable for Nikon D 5100

Theil

Question

I have envoyé using Backyard Nikon for several years, but now I wanted to try using the 3.5 update, but I can't get the program to connect to the camera. Do I need a different cable? I am using a USB Shutter Control Adapter for Nikon ML-L3.

Per the Supported cameras page the D5100 DOES need a serial shutter control cable for BULB exposures! However, the cables should not need to change when you upgrade versions of BYN.

It would help if you provided the full version number of the BYN software that you are using, like 3.5.0.RC9 or 3.5.0.RC9 x64.

It would also help if you provide details about what you are doing and what you are hearing and seeing when BYN fails to connect, as well as more about your setup; like is this a new PC, what cable(s) you are using, and are they known to be good cables?

A shutter control cable is only used to open and close the shutter for BULB exposures. It has nothing to do with connecting BYN with the camera.

For models like the D5100 that do not support controlling BULB exposures over USB you need to connect 2 cables in parallel between the PC and the camera. One cable is a USB cable that allows control like changing settings and downloading images. The second cable is a shutter control cable that enables BULB exposures, when correctly configured.
