DSUSB and D5100 works with older version 2.0.11 but not new version 3.5.0

Kevinwalsh

Question

I have the pro version of both the older 2.0.11 and newer 3.5.0 versions of BYN. (I also have the latest pro version of BYE.) I use BYN 3.5.0 with my D810a, and I use BYE with an M200.

I hadn't used my old D5100 for a while, but I recently bought a full spectrum modified D5100 and tried to use it with the 3.5.0 version of the software. I downloaded and installed the DSUSB test program from Showstring, and it will allow me to work the shutter. When I run BYN 3.5.0 I can access and use 'Frame and Focus" view and 'Planetary' mode, but when I try to do single frame imaging the imaging routine immediately quits and gives me an error code:

21:14:05  An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)
21:14:06  Imaging session cancelled

I've selected the DSUSB 'Cable Support' and I've tried using (and not using) 'camera force serial cable use' in the advanced settings tab. I've tried using (and not using) 'Enable TCP Server'.  [Obviously I'm shotgunning anything that looks like it might affect the use of the DSUSB cable. I'm an optics engineer; not a software engineer / coder.]

I suppose I've missed something, but I've tried so many things I don't know what else to try.

Also - My computer at my scope is a Beelink running Win11. It only has V 3.5 0 of BYN on it. My older laptop running Win7 has both V 2.0.11 and V 3.5.0, and it is with this combination, of the Win7 laptop and BYN 2.0.11, that the DSUSB cable works and will properly operate my D5100.

Is this a Win11 issue? Or a V 3.5.0 issue? Or and ID10T error on my part?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kevin Walsh

Ahhh. I wasn’t aware there are two versions of V3.5.0.

Considering the age of DSUSB, it would not be surprising that it won’t work in a 64 bit environment.

I can try installing the 32 bit version.

Can I have both the 32 and 64 bit versions installed? My D810a works fine with 3.5.0.

I checked different locations on the website and did not find a 32 bit version of the v 3.5.0 software. In this 'Support' section, the link to v 3.5.0 doesn't show a 32 bit version, only the 64 bit version.

I did see that the latest version in the store is v 2.1.3. I downloaded that and entered my key, and yes, the D5100 worked as expected using the 'DSUSB' cable.

I'll go over to my 'warm room' where the Beelink is that controls my scope and cameras and install v 2.1.3 there. I expect the camera will then run as expected.

Thanks.

PS - Btw, the 'Plate Solve' has been working well with ASTAP. Anyone who is struggling with platesolving should try ASTAP. Be sure to connect BYN or BYE to your ASCOM Telescope mount, using the 'Check Mark' button on the main screen.
