do i have to use a DSUSB cable to use software or can i just use intervalometer to control my shutter.
had a D3100 and just recently bought D7000 for 350$ would like to get another 30 days as i did not check to see if camera was on the list. would like to try out
MyD7000 without the cable to turn on bulb i would select on camera and try with intervalometer instead.

Too bad you didn't buy a used newer camera that supports BULB over USB and so does not need a DSUSB cable. The purpose of the DSUSB cable with older cameras is to allow BYN to control the shutter
