Question

I downloaded the classic version of BYN.  It would not show my camera in live view.  I downloaded a different version of backyardNIKON, BackyardNIKON 3.5.0 x 64 - RC8, which allowed my Nikon z6ii to work in live view, but now I get this error:

20:36:44  Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {40D02BB3-80B5-4EAF-A264-61B9EF30BBE2} failed due to the following error: 80040154 Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG)).

And, the videos are not saving anywhere.

I would like the steps on how to solve this issue.

James

This is a Windows/com issue, or potentially you are missing a c++ redistributable missing.

Make sure you have .net 4.5 installed and also download/install the latest c++ 64bits redistributable from Microsoft.

Keep us posted

You were incorrect when you said "I downloaded the classic version of BYN." With BYE and BYN versions are numbers, whereas Classic is a type of license, along with Trial and Premium. You can apply any BYN license to any download of BYN to activate the features that are allowed for that license. This also means that if you are using BYN with a Trial license and decide to purchase a Classic or Premium license you do NOT need to download the software again, just apply the new license to your existing copy of BYN to make the features of the paid license available.

Now, what was the version of BYN that you were using where you could not bet LiveView to work? The latest release of BYN is 2.1.3. Version 3.5.0.... are pre-releases.

The "class not registered" error that you provided in your post indicates an installation error related to the ByteScout converter that assembles LiveView JPG images into video files. I believe that this error has been previously reported by another user who said that the he got the error when he was trying to use the x64 version of BYN even if he was not trying to create videos , but just keeping separate JPGs. I do not believe that a fix has been made available

Hello,

I originally used version 2.1.3, but in that version, the live view did not work at all.  After reading for hours all the posts, I downloaded version 3.5 x64.  On that version the live view did work, but the videos are not saved.

I have net 4.5 installed as well as up-to-date on the other item you mentioned, and it is still not work.  I would also add that my backyard for my cannon works just find with my other camera on the same computer.

I just tried BYE 3.5.0.RC7 x64 with my Canon T5i and I have the same issue as you. The log file has the following error:

2025-01-17 19:34:44,096 [Encode(Normal)] DEBUG - ByteScout: Planetary_Tv0.8s_800iso_960x640_20250117-19h34m37s

The individual planetary JPG images are in the BackyardTEMP\Download folder.

It seems to be an issue with how the installed version of ByteScout is registered for COM. From looking at my Windows Registry it seems as though only the 32-bit ByteScoutImageToVideo dll is registered. It is incompatible with the 64-bit versions of BYE and BYN.

This is not an error, it's a warning message. Click ok to register the avi encoder, and if Windows pops a message to elevate to admin privileges, you MUST accept it. It should work after this.

That is because it's not registered - though from your description you seem to have done everything needed to have it properly registered.

This said, any reason you want the AVI over the individual JPGs? It's the same quality JPG vs AVI. The only thing you gain with AVI is the convenience of having every frame in one single AVI file, but at the cost of a larger AVI file, the sum of all JPGs ends up to be smaller in size, yet absolute same quality.

I used DUMPBIN /HEADERS on the 3 BytescoutImageToVideo*.dll files in my installation of BYE 3.5.0 and all 3 show up as 32-bit.

However they are not registered for COM Interop on my system. And that is a good thing!!! If they were registered, that registration would replace any pre-existing registration which could break other applications that are relying on a differ version of Bytescout.

The Bytescout software that is registered on my computer is in C:\Windows\SysWOW64. Don't be confused by the "64" in the folder name. These are 32-bit DLLs and are registered as such. These 32-bit dlls are not compatible with the 64-bit version of BYE or BYN. This is what is causing people to have errors.

Guylain, if you want to discuss this offline I am here.

Hello Admin,

It does not work at all now as it just keeps resetting.  I've even tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it, and it has the same issue. I would like refund as clearly this software does not work.  I have also spent hours and hours trying to get the software to work, which is never a great sign when you have to spend that much time, time you do not have, to get software to do what it is supposed to do, especially when it costs money.  I gave it a really good try, but it just does not work for my camera for whatever reason.  The first version does not work because it does not allow the camera to have live view and the other version does not work because it did not record the video and after the "fix" it does not function period.

However, the Cannon version works just fine.

So, is BYN totally working? Including saving Planetary video files?

If so, I guess that it is good because you would likely not be able to get a refund from O'Telescope. This is because they offer a free 30-day Trial license that you can use to verify that BYN works for your camera and your workflow before purchasing a permanent license and because of the electronic license you are unable to return it and could still use BYN even though you might have gotten a refund.
