Please provide more details.

What version of BYE?

What version of Windows?

What are the detailed steps that result in the error being generated?

What is the error text?

The dialog where you enter your license key and Identifier tells you what the Identifier is. It says "Your identifier is your O'Telescope web site account login-name your license key is associated with. Not the password, just the login-name."

If you see your license key after logging in as mikemuggless than your Identifier is
"mikemuggless".

It is good that you did not show your key. It is private, like a social security number, and should not be published.

Did you manually type in the license key or use Copy/Paste to transfer it from the browser into the BYN dialog? Copy/Paste is the most reliable way to enter the key.

I cannot tell if there is an issue on the O'Telescope side, as I am a user, like you are.

Do you have anti-virus or firewall software that is blocking communications between your laptop and the O'Telescope servers? You might try temporarily disabling it.

I typed it in myself. I can try the Copy/Paste. Do I need to remove BYN from the old compter ? Does having both programs " active" at the same time cause a conflict ? Is there a way to reset everything ? Thanks again for the help.

According to the End User License Agreement you can install BYN on more than one computer, as long as you only use it on one machine at a time. If you want to confirm this for yourself, you can find it in the User Guide which is installed with BYN. That said, It should completely uninstall itself.

I don't know what you mean by "Is there a way to reset everything?"

I was just able to verify my license key. This tells me that there is no problem with the O'Telescope servers.

I asked this previously, but which version of BYN are you running? 2.1.3? 3.5.0.RC7 x64?

All indications are that this is something on your Windows installation that is preventing BYN license validation. The O'Telescope servers appear to be operating normally and no other users have recently reported the same issue.

I also suggested temporarily turning off any anti-virus and firewall software. Did you try this? As an alternative you could also add firewall rules to allow the BYN applications through the firewall.

Make sure you have the latest version downloaded (or a pre-release).

Make sure you download BackyardNIKON and not BackyardEOS :)

Keep us posted

No virus software yet other then possibly windows defender. I downloaded the same one I had purchased before. I can delete it, try again. Turn off Windows Defender. I had Mcafee running with the BYN on the other computer. That one works fine, other than ancient dusty computer.

That could be the issue. Download the latest.

This said, the error is indicating a key or identifier error, this is a local validation, and leads me to think this is 100% a keying issue. Please cut&paste from the otelescope website only, a number 0 looks awfully close to the letter O, same for number 1 vs letter I.

The OP said that he was not successful when using Copy/Paste to transfer the license key.

I would say to make sure that you grab a permanent Classic or Premium license for BYN and not a Trial license which is long-expired.
