Activating Histogram in BYEOS

astronomynut

Question

This is really going to sound dumb, but I have realized, after 18 months that something is missing in my BYEOS window.

I am not seeing the Histogram.  I do see the box and the three vertical lines, but nothing else.

Exactly what do I do to activate things so I see the Histogram hills or whatever they are called.  I was told that this will help me set my exposure times.  Caley

Hmmm, I don't think that there is anything that you need to do other than be sure that your images are downloaded and saved on the PC as they are taken.  If you save them only to the memory card in the camera then they will not be downloaded to the PC and you will not see the histogram.

If you don't see any humps in the histogram it means you are probably not exposing long enough.

There is not acitvate/deactivate histogram... it is always there.

Try taking a normal picture during day time.  Do you see the histogram.

Perhaps you can post a screen shot?

Well, It's one of those times when you just chalk it up to inexperience.  Yes, my subs were not long enough to put the Histogram anywhere except far left.  So far left that I just didn't notice it.  I got help on another forum, and I solved the problem of the missing Histogram just by adding another 60 seconds to my exposure time.  Caley

When you take astrophotos you want the histogram hump about 1/3 in from the left.  You need to expose as long as you need to get it around that mark.  If you do not, your exposures are too short.
