BackyardNikon doesn't recognize D5300 on Windows 11

andrew.oler@gmail.com

Question

Hi,

I'm using the latest version of BackyardNIKON downloaded for Windows and I'm unable to connect my Nikon D5300.  I first tried the Nikon2015, which failed but then once I realized the first option included older cameras with updated firmware I tried that option and it just hangs indefinitely saying "Attempting to Connect Camera" (>10 minutes).

For additional information, I have the camera connected to the laptop via USB and it is recognized in Device Manager as "Portable Devices" and I can see it is mounted in the File Manager window. The Nikon D5300 has the latest firmware (C 1.03 L 2.017).

Anything I can do to get this camera to connect?

Also, a minor question, is it possible to make it so the window is not always on top of all other windows?

Thanks,

Andrew

If you want to control the camera, rather than to access the camera's SD card, then you need to select a different connection/communication option. I am not a Nikon owner, but other new users of BYN have had a similar issue. You might scan back through the posts to the BYN Forum.

I should also mention that BYN and the Nikon SDK need a wired USB connection between the camera and the PC to control your camera. Also the SD card in the camera needs to be empty, or nearly empty since having lots of images on the card can cause a connection from BYN to take a long time or fail.

Thanks, I'm using BackyardNIKON 2.1.3.  I searched through the forums a bit and wasn't able to find any posts about controlling the camera, but can search some more.  If you recall certain terms that were mentioned that might help me find the relevant posts.  Yes, it does appear the camera is mounted as a way to transfer files off of the SD card; I assumed that was sufficient to control the camera as well.  If not, I'm not sure what else is needed in addition.  (I assumed since the software is made for Nikon cameras you might know... or was hoping at least.)

Thanks,

Andrew
