BackyardNIKON 64 bits is now available!

admin

Question

BackyardNIKON 64 bits is now available for download in the pre-release section. This has been a long time coming, and was needed to support new Nikon cameras, as Nikon no longer provides their SDK in 32 bits mode.

We have aligned BackyardNIKON’s version number with BackyardNIKON version number, hence the jump from 2.1.x to 3.5.x.

BackyardNIKON 3.5.0 will install side-by-side of previously installed versions of BackyardNIKON; they can coexist just fine on the same computer. If you don’t need your previously installed version, you can remove it without any impact on 3.5.x.

Your BackyardNIKON 2.1.x software key will work with BackyardNIKON 3.5.x ~ it’s a free upgrade!

For those who are interested, these camera models should connect using the 64 bit installation of BackyardNIKON, and newer cameras released by Nikon will only work with the 60 bits installation of BackyardNIKON in the future as Nikon no longer provides 32 bits SDK.

Thanks for the feedback. I only have a Z50, D5100, and D7000 to test with. These 3 models to connect to both 32 and 64 bits. This said, I will cross-reference all Nikon libraries to make sure I have mapped to the correct one for each model.

Can you make sure/confirm you have the c++ 64 bits installed on your computer? If you only have the 32 bits versions of c++ redistributable, it won't work.

Thanks for the quick reply. After installing VC_redist.x64.exe, the computer was restarted. BYN 64 bit still did not connect to any of the listed cameras. If I can provide any other data you need, I will be happy to help. Thanks.

Hi, is Nikon Z9 supported?  It's my understanding it's essentially the same as the Z8.  Thanks!

Not yet... and nothing is essentially the same, lol. Last time I checked, the SDK wasn't out just yet for the Z9.

Z9 is older than Z8, I think the SDK has been out for quite a while already and has been updated several times

2023.07.26- Camera remote control Module SDK for Z 9 has been updated for the firmware "C" Ver4.00.

Please try RC6 in the pre-release section, I just added the Z9 :)

I have locked this thread as I'd rather not have this be a catch-all place for any issues or comments 64-bits related.

If you have an issue, please create a new thread with your specific issue. This will allow us to have a focused conversation about your specific issues.

Thank you
