Getting to take pictures with an Acer laptop

guyjacci

Question

I can connect my NIKON D-7000 to my laptop.   I can see a picture on my laptop screen.  I set a shooting plan and press Start Capture, the camerma starts then stoppes.   it says Imageing session cancelled.    In the history log it says I need a configured serial cable for bulb or mirror lock to work.

I have a 16 ft repeater cable with a short cable that is a usb to mini B to my camera.

have a len on and set to manual.

According to the Camera Support Grid for BYN, the message that you are getting is likely your issue...That is you need a second cable to trigger the shutter for exposures longer than 30 seconds (BULB exposures).  This requirement is a result of the Nikon SDK that BYN uses for control of the D7000.  There is nothing that BYN can do to eliminate the need for the second cable.

See the attached screenshot from the Camera Support Grid. If you want to see the entire grid, scroll to the bottom of this page, and click on the link.

The 3rd column in the table fragment is for whether you can do BULB exposures with your camera.

Before you get a DSUSB serial cable from Shoestring Astronomy, you could try taking non-BULB exposures to verify that there is no other issue.

Also, you did not say, but if your USB extension cable is not an active extension cable, you may want to consider the upgrade.

Well, I did as was told and added the second cable.  To my surprize, it found the camera and did what I put in the planner.  I now will need another repeater cable, and by on my way to getting some pictures.  I like the program alot now that it is working.  ( I liked it alot before that also).

Many Many thanks for the support.
