Mixed results 6D.  Once, I got a solid connection and took a series of 10 shots.  Then, I had trouble reconnecting.  Also, it appears that the camera function panel is not live as it is in the Canon control program (Digital Photo Pro 4 and EOS utility for the Wifi connection).  For example, I did not see any way to change from RAW+L to RAW+S.  With RAW+L transmission time was on the order of 30 s.

It is interesting to see that software can now perform as the intervalometer.  One feature that I liked about the 6D was it still has the old "N3" connector, so I can use my TC80N3 controller plus intervalometer.  I guess I still like the hardware controller and button at least for taking shots during setup for focus and initial alignment of my CGEM mount.  Then, I hope to disconnect and do all ops by remote Wifi.

BYE looks like a terrific program.  Also, while an experienced technical person, I am an amateur astronomer newbie (weeks).  However, for now I will probably just use the stock Canon Wifi based system to record and data log my data.  Plan is to run PHD or PHD2 out at the scope on a small ASUS, with mount control by RS-232 to Wifi (U.S. Converters WF5000B, not set up and tried yet) and Canon 6D Wifi, both back via Netgear Wifi extender near the backyard (signal levels look good on Wifi Analyzer).

I am hoping to be nice and toasty warm indoors while data taking ... time will tell if it's practical.

I forgot to say thanks to those who answered earlier.

About 125 feet from the telescope to the computer.  That's a good idea extending USB.  I see some USB extenders that go to CAT 5 and back to USB up to 150 feet.  The first ones I saw say USB 1.1, there may be faster powered USB systems.

For now, I have all the parts, so I'll see how Wifi goes first.
