Adding IMAGETYP to FITS Header

gmeehan

Question

I use BYE version 3.0.3. I notice that the FITS header of the CR2 file does not include the key, IMAGETYP. In order to run the calibraition in Maxim DL, I have to go into each FITS header and manually enter this key.

Is IMAGETYP included in the FITS header as a feature of one of the later releases of the software?

Thank you,

Gary

Gary,

The RAW files that come out of the Canon EOS camera are CR2 which is a proprietary Canon file format.  The metadata in the CR2 file is called EXIF data. It is like the header data in a FITS file in that they are both forms of metadata (data that describes data).  Backyard EOS does add some information of its own to the EXIF data.  As Guylain has said, the parameter that he uses for the image type is BackyardCaptureType.

IMAGETYP may be a header parameter in some FITS files, and it may be a header parameter that Maxim looks for in FITS files, but it is a custom parameter.  As such, it is not a required header parameter, and you will not find it mentioned in the FITS standard.

CCDSoft allows me to identify image type through either a field in the image's file name, or by a parameter in the FITS file's header data.  The name of the header parameter is arbitrary.  Are you sure that Maxim doesn't have a similar facility.
