Plate solving with D90 in BackyardNikon

markromanoff

Question

HI, I'm trying to set up plate solving with my D90 but when I press the center button, the shutter defaults to BULB and won't take the picture. I'm guessing this is because I don't have a DSUSB cable. Is there a way to set it up without it going to BULB? My camera will take 30 second pictures natively with only the USB cable. Thanks in advance, Mark

According to the Supported Cameras table, the D90 requires a DSUSB (not DSUB)  cable to shoot bulb exposures.

What did you set for the Duration on the Advanced screen, just to the right of the Plate Solver dropdown? It allows values at least up to 999 seconds. If the value is less than 30, I would expect that BYN would let the camera time the exposure, but it may be using the computer to time the exposure (BULB) regardless of the duration. If that is  the case you would need a serial shutter cable when using Plate Solving.

Sorry that I cannot give a more definitive answer, but my Canons all support BULB over USB so it doesn't make a difference to me. hopefully Guylain will chime in with a better answer.
