A problem with a DSUSB cable should not prevent connection, it should only prevent BULB exposures.

 

Assuming you correctly named your camera as the DIGIC II 5D, you should make sure that you choose the DIGIC II driver group when connecting.  Also, most DIGIC II cameras require a 32-bit version of Windows.

I forgot to mention that the 5D is not in the camera support grid...not sure why, because it is listed in the caption for selecting DIGIC II cameras on the driver selection dialog.

 

It should be in the grid, I'll add it.
