Best practice for using Planetary capture in BackyardNIKON

Hi all,

 

I've done some searching and reading on these forums, but I wondered if someone could explain the best practice for using the planetary capture function of BackyardNIKON.

 

I tried last night using it with the lunar eclipse but with somewhat disappointing results - largely down to poor preparation on my part - but would like to really understand how to use this feature most effectively.

 

I have access to a NIKON D600 and a D7200 and wonder what the differences are in terms of using this function and what are the best settings on the cameras and in the application.

I don't really do much planetary imaging myself so I can't really offer any real experience

Planetary mode is only useful for the eclipse when the moon is bright (before and after totality).  During totality the exposure of the LiveView images are just too short. For those reasons i did not try to use Planetary mode for the eclipse.
