USB3 vs USB2 Planetary Transfer Speeds

Ron Hillstromb

Question

An interesting query on another topic was will USB 3.0 capability give faster transfers of captures in Planetary mode.

I just did a table top test using my 7DMkII and my trusty old 60Da.  Both captured at comparable speeds of 22 to 26 FPS each.  I used a lens on the 7DMkII and the 60Da had my 2 inch adapter which had a cap on it for the test.

My initial conclusion is that the camera processors probably set the frame capture speed.

I don't have time at the moment but will probably try setting the movie speed to 60 fps manually before connecting to BYE just to see if that will effect the speed in planetary capture.  Don't know anything about the SDK and if it may allow control of that feature.

Felt this branch of the other topic warranted its own path.
