Zack,

What do you mean by "my key is not working"? Please be detailed in describing what you are doing and what you are seeing, including any error messages.

Also, what version of BYN are you using and what version of Windows?

Until you have successfully validated the key, it does not get to a point where it needs to "work". Also, Trial licenses require the Internet to work. This is necessary because BYN must connect to the O'Telescope servers to confirm that the key has not expired.

Thanks!

Hi, the error message I receive is:

"License validation error! Activation key not valid for BackyardNIKON."

I can assure you that I have installed the program correctly and that I am entering the key correctly. I also have internet service.

I'm using BYN 2.1.2 and Windows 10.

Thanks,

Zack

Zack,

I don't know for sure since I am only a long-time BYE user who tries to help out here, but here are my thoughts.

Are you using a VPN or possibly have a firewall that is blocking BYN from communicating with the O'Telescope server? I use Windows Defender for anti-virus and firewall protection. I have rules in my Firewall to allow BYE to talk out through the firewall. I also know that the license server is using TLS 1.2 so your PC needs to support that protocol. That said, it should be the default for Windows 10. This has caused issues for Windows 7 users still on earlier versions of TLS.

Also, the error message is not saying that the key is not valid, but that it is not valid for BYN. Is it, by chance, a BYE key? If so, a BYE license key will never work with BYN. This is by design. You need to get a BYN Trial license. If you do have a BYN key then it may be mis-keyed. Some characters look alike like 0 and O or l and 1.You should use Copy/Paste to transfer your key from the web site into the BYN license validation dialog.

Sorry if you already know this. I am just trying to cover all the bases.

That error is very specific.

You have a trial key for BackyardEOS and you are using it to activate BackyardNIKON. That will never work.

Add BackyardNIKON trial to your cart and proceed to checkout for a BackyardNIKON key :)
