Canon EOS 200D MK II compatibility

r.j.player@gmail.com

Question

Hi there,

I am looking ant getting my daughter a camera (that is compatible with Backyard EOS), we were looking at a Canon EOS 200D MKII (SL3?) and wasn't sure if it was compatible. The EOS 200D SL2 is on the list, but that doesn't exist in Australia by the looks of things.

Any advice would be handy

Thank you

Russell

The EOS 200D is also known as the SL2. There is no 200D MK II that I know of. The successor to the SL2 is the SL3 (aka the 250D).

The Supported Cameras page here --> https://www.otelescope.com/byecameras.html/ lists the camera models that are supported by BYE, as well as some models that are not supported. I will say that the list is in error as I believe that the SL2 has a DIGIC 7 processor, not a DIGIC 5 processor, as stated on that page.

The SL2 was released in 2017 and the SL3 two years later. There are several online reviews that compare the two models so I would suggest reading some of them to get an idea which one might be better for your intended use. As you can see from the above link, both are fully supported by BYE. They are also roughly comparable in price.

I hope this helps.

According to the source I linked above, the 250D / SL3 is also known as the 200D MkII in some places in the world. It is sad that Canon has chosen to have the same camera named differently depending on geographic location :( but it is what it is I guess.
