Custom/More Pleasing Sounds

dts350z

Question

OK, this is a nit, and  I guess one users can do for themselves (and I'll always vote for new features over something like this) but man that electrical shock sound when the camera fails to connect really bugs me. Astro imaging is frustrating enough without the computer making rude noises at you  :P .

I really like using EQMOD with the optional sounds. Pleasing female voice telling you what's going on; "Slewing to target", "Slew Complete", "Parking", etc.

I'd vote for "Camera not found", and "Capture Plan Ended", or similar. In fact, I replaced the wave files with voice synth files from the web and it works (but get's overwritten with new installs?). I just wish it was as high quality as the EQMOD sounds (Could we have the same voice?).

The google translate female voice would do it. I just don't know where the interface is to type in words and end up with a wave file.

I guess one tweak I would want is to add a different sound for AstroTortilla finished an exposure vs. "Capture Plan Ended", because I wouldn't want to hear "Capture Plan Ended" 2-5 times while slewing to every target. Might leave the AstroTortilla sound as a beep, or turn it off altogether.

Yeah, 25 people at an imaging workshop looking over my shoulder, waiting for me to demo BYE and that noise doesn't help keep me keep calm so I can focus on trouble shooting!

Agree that BYE/N rocks. Anybody that has learned SGP or other capture programs, for more automation, will certainly keep a fondness and longing for the UI in BYE/N!

In apps that I have written, I use both .wav files for sound effects and natural speech via Windows built-in text-to-speech (TTS) engine. The problem with Microsoft's TTS is that voices must be installed for each language and they are not always free or distributable. This is not an issue with the .wav files.

This makes it more difficult to distribute an application that can display and speak in multiple languages.

The thing with actual words been spoken is that BYE/BYN supports about 10 different languages.

One can already remove or replace any .wav files in the installation folder/sounds.

Is this sufficient?  Probably not.

Regards,
