help with serial cable to use BULB

jpallison

Question

I have a Nikon D300 which needs requires a serial cable connection to use the BULB feature in BYN.

I bought a cable from Shoestring Astronomy that connects from the D300's 10 pin remote terminal via a DSUSB box to my computer's USB port.  First off does that sound like I hooked it up right?

When I try taking a BULB picture I get an error that says "Your camera requires a configured serial cable for BULB or Mirror Lock.

I tried it WITHOUT a second cable connecting the usb on my camera connected to another USB port and I could not connect the D300 to BYN.  (it normally does fine connecting to byn)

Do I use two cables to use the BULB function?  Am I hooking it up correctly?  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hi,  Still having trouble.

I confirmed the DSUSB cable is working with the Shoestring Astronomy app  (it was able to control my shutter).

When I select DSUSB under Cable Support in BYN and then click on Test Cable, I do NOT hear the shutter go off, which apparently means its still not properly configured.

If I try to take a BULB image with the DSUSB selected in the imaging screen, it gives the error " image download timeout, process terminated after 123 seconds"

Can you please help.  Thank you very much.

Sorry but the DSUSB_D40 option did the same thing.  Could I be missing something simple in configuring the cable.  I choose DSUSB in the Cable Support Section, make sure the shutter is on BULB in the bottom right hand corner.  Then Do I do anything else before hitting the Test Cable button?

Thanks for sticking it out.

Hi Guylain,  Did you get a chance to look at the logs I sent you on BYN version 1.0.2?

I have tried connecting the camera to different USB ports in various fashions, but its still does the same thing.

Do you think I could have something wrong with my computer?

Thanks, Jay

Yes and no.

You sent me the entire log folder.  There is to much in there.  Can you please delete all logs in the log folder, then try again and send me that new log file.  It will prevent me from looking at all of them to find the error message.

Thanks
