Missing temperature reading

vadsuhanc

Question

Hi all,

I bought a new laptop and for some reason BackyardEOS doesn't read the sensor temperature of my Canon 7d II anymore. It used to work with my old laptop. The temperature is actually included in the EXIF data as you can see from the exiftool dump file, and other capture programs can read it as well. Settings, raw file, logs etc. can be found here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1UaV5K53Y1goy9xC5L3WSKPkhB8pEZPDb?usp=sharing
Tried it with version 3.2.1 and 3.2.2 (I don't remember which version I used on my old laptop), also with an other camera with the same result.
Note: I made the test picture without a lens hence the missing f-number.

Do you have any idea how to fix this?

Thanks,
Gábor

The temperature is not shown in the Camera Information Center either. Also, the file is downloaded as expected, and I don't use any additional anti-virus software. However, the file not found error is interesting, maybe BackyardEOS doesn't like accent marks in the path name... I'll try with a different folder.

I also double checked Skip READ Exif data is disabled.

Yep, the problem is caused by an accent mark in the TEMP folder's path, I tested with multiple different folders with and without accent marks. (My last laptop used US localization so this was not a problem.) Thanks for the help, I didn't notice those errors in the log.

So you are expecting that the internal camera temperature should be in the file name for the finished image, but it is not. That in itself does not mean that BYE was unable to read the temperature from the EXIF data.

Unfortunately, your screenshots showing the file naming screen and the Settings dialog blocked the bottom line of the Camera Information Center on the main BYE window. This is where the temperature should be displayed if BYE was able to read the temperature from the camera. If that is displayed, but the temperature is not listed in the file name when configured that way, the problem is with the file naming logic.

I am also seeing "File Not Found" errors in the log file trying to read the raw downloaded image file. I wonder if the new PC has anti-virus protection that is preventing the image from being downloaded. Perhaps I am not reading the log file correctly.

As a simple test I would suggest turning off your ant-virus software and take a picture. See if the symptoms change. To make sure that you are actually taking a picture, I would put a lens on the camera and shoot a daylight image so that you can see it on the screen and know that it is a fresh image.
