Finally… BackyardNIKON V1 BETA01 is released.

admin

Question

YOUPEE!!!

In this initial BETA release my only goal is camera connectivity, basic image acquisition, and live view.

Please report the following issues ONLY for now.

  1. Camera connection issues
  2. Live view not working issues
  3. Taking picture issues (not BULB unless you have a DSUSB cable which does work in BETA 01).  TV pictures in ‘M’ dial mode are working so please report any issues if taking TV images does not work.
KNOWN ISSUES.

  1. BULB over USB does not work yet, for any models.  BULB will only work if you have a DSUSB cable in this initial BETA 01 release.
  2. NEF images download but will not be displayed.  For this reason I have set the default image setting to RAW+JPG so images can be shown in BackyardNIKON.

The BETA installer comes pre-compiled with a BETA license.  The BETA installer will NOT install over your current BackyardEOS so fear not.

I have personally tested camera connection with…

  • D90
  • D5100
  • D7000
I also expect the following camera to connect properly, but I can’t be sure.

  • D5200
  • D5300
  • D7100
  • D800
All other models I’m not sure… BUT it may connect and if it does you will get a message like the following and liveview will not work, but taking pictures should/might.

Device(#####) Module(Type###) found!

PLEASE CONTACT US with the above information.

We may be able to hook it up properly in BETA 02.

This is exciting, thank you for your support and interest,

Guylain & Chris

Mac user when will be use for test?

BackyardNIKON (just as BackyardEOS) is a MS .net app and only runs on Windows.  You need Parallel (or other virtualization software) to run on Mac.

Thank you. I tried on Windows 8 and Nikon D5100 he said me:

Camera Not Found!  Make sure it's connected to the PC and turned ON.

I couldnt use it.

Yes, I know.  I have a few connection issues in BETA 01b for the D90, D5100, D800 and a few other models.

I should be releasing BETA 01c in a day or 2 and hopefully I'll get more models to connect this time.  Baby steps.

Thank you for your time testing.

Hey Guylain, I noticed a UI tweak that should be addressed.

In Planetary mode, it still refers to "BackyardEOS".

I will get a full test of it tonight - weather permitting - on Jupiter and Mars. :)

*EDIT* the Clicking the "?" button brings up a help file, which loads PDF that refers to BackyardEOS. I wasn't sure if you had planned on writing a separate file for BackyardNIKON or not.

I know you want to take this in a 'baby steps' approach - I just wanted to make you aware.

I am using the initial download - I haven't tried 1B yet - will install separately tonight and report back.

This is a great initiative! I downloaded 1b and connected up my D200. I get the message D200 module found. looks like we may need to make some changes etc.

I am connected with a usb cable and the DUSB to the 10 pin remote terminal. log file attached. I also have Nikon Camera control pro v1.0.0 on the laptop which launches when i switch the camera on. I closed this down and then tried to connect in BYN but get the same message. Hope you can make it work with my D200!!

Thank you for the log files...and thank your for attaching then as oppose the copying the directly into the post.  It keeps the thread readability :)

I'll see what I can do the BETA 01c.
