Can I use an intervalometer with BYN?

belliott4488

Question

I am waiting to receive a DSUSB cable so that BYN can control the exposure time in bulb mode on my Nikon D5000. In the meantime, is it possible to use an intervalometer to control the sequence of exposures, but to have BYN catch the frames as they're created? In other words, can BYN be made aware that the frames are being taken automatically so that it grabs them, names the files, puts them in the recent image list, etc.?

Thanks,

Bruce

This will be a question best answered by a little bit of "Tabletop Testing":

  1. Set your Camera on your Table (or desk or workbench or...), with either a T-Adapter and Cap (no Scope required) or Lens (if that is what you intend for your Field Use).
  2. Hook your Observing Laptop to your Camera using the same USB Cable that you intend for Field Use.
  3. Hook your Intervalometer to your Camera Remote Shutter Port.
  4. Experiment - reviewing what Images are captured to the Camera Data Card and/or to the PC.

Every Camera will be different, and my Intervalometer Use experience is with an OLD Canon 350D.  But...

I remember that the Intervalometer Images were stored ONLY to the Camera Data Card - nothing was downloaded to the PC.   But, the other functions - LiveView / Frame&Focus worked fine.

Work with what you can to see how much functionality you can leverage of BYN while awaiting for your DSUSB to be delivered.
