Scene (SCN) mode is gone from camera

viktor.mikalacz

Question

Hi

I'm successfully using BackyardEOS 3.2.2 Premium with a Canon 6D (Mark 1) over USB.

However, if I want to use the camera on its own for normal photography, when I turn the mode dial to SCN, the camera thinks it's in P mode: when I push the Q button on the back of the camera, it brings up the quick settings for Program mode, instead of the options to select a scene (normal, portrait, sport, etc.).

I suspect this happened after I have used BYE while the camera dial was set to SCN.

Is there a way to restore the in-camera scene settings? I have not tried to reflash the firmware yet.

Thanks.

Vik

I played around a bit with the Special Scene Modes (SCN). I have Night Portrait, Handheld Night Scene, and HDR Backlight  Control of my T5i with BYE does not work with these modes. The rotary dial on the camera must be in M (Manual), or Tv (Shutter Priority) shooting modes.

Using BYE to capture images does not effect my ability to use one of the SCN modes when the camera is unplugged from the computer.

There could be some weird interaction between your 6D and the Canon SDK that I cannot duplicate. I find it strange that the SDK would affect shooting modes that it does not use.

It could be possible that certain SCN Functionality is Blocked by other Imaging Settings configured on your 6D (quite unrelated to any BYE usage).  The Menu Structure and the Feature Implementation on a Professional-grade DSLR such as the 6D makes for a mind-blowing number of permutations - and some of those may preclude SCN functionality.
