Plate solving

tgrantonic

Question

I'm attempting to learn plate solving using BYN v3.5.0. Reading the documentation, I've downloaded AstroTortilla as the third party platform to accomplish this. The documentation says that after I've clicked "enable TCP server" under the settings and 3rd party integration, the next step is to choose BackYardNIKON as my camera control. However that doesn't appear in the list. Only BackYardEOS. Is that what I need to use? I'm connecting to a Nikon Z8. Additionally, after restarting BYN after clicking "enable TCP server", that box remains unclicked and I'm not sure if it's integrated or not.

You may be seeing the same issue that I reported last month with BYE 3.5.0.RC7 x64. Another symptom is that BYN always comes up in "Night Vision" mode. If you switch to Daylight mode (click on the button just to the left of the Settings button) and restart the app it comes up in Night Vision mode with red text on a dark background. In fact, none of your settings changes are remembered.

Here is a link to the post where I reported the issue. It seems that for some reason the app is unable to read the settings to initialize them at startup.

One other comment...AstroTortilla has not been supported for several years. The primary plate solving tool for BYE/BYN users is ASTAP. There is an article that will help you get started here -->

For future reference it is pinned as the 1st post in the How To's Forum.
