BYEOS stopped working!

orbmanBYEOS

Question

I've used BYEOS v3.2.3 (premium) with my Canon camera (7D Mark II) now for about a year and it has worked great.

Now, I can connect the camera to BYEOS. When I take an image, the BYEOS progress wheel goes around and around quite a few times (with a BUSY message), and then disconnects my camera. If I try to reconnect the camera, I get the connection error message (try another USB port, turn off EOS utility, etc.)

Very frustrating, and need to be able to use BYEOS.

Please help.

Been working with computers for 60 years, and these devices still never cease to amaze me - they have a mind of their own! EOS Utility was NOT running when BYEOS would not work. I then turned EOS Utility on to see if I could capture planetary video as a backup to BYEOS. After turning EOS Utility off, BYEOS is now working.

BYE does not have a history of the installation becoming corrupted. So, if the software has been working but then suddenly stops working it is unlikely that an uninstall/reinstall cycle of the same software version will fix it.

It would have helped to have more detailed information about what you were doing when the issue occurred. You should provide enough detail that someone could try to cause the same error by repeating the same steps. Information like the following would have been useful to know:

  • which version of the software you were using,
  • what kind of license,
  • version of Windows,
  • brand of anti-virus software,
  • camera model,
  • what functionality in BYE were you using (Imaging, Frame & Focus, Planetary),
  • what were the settings in your capture plan,
  • were you using an autofocus lens, a telescope, or a body cap on the camera,
  • how long was your USB cable and was it known to be good.

You provided the version of BYE and your camera model. That is not really enough information to provide any targeted guidance to help you resolve your issue.

I raise this in case something like this happens again.

BTW, I have been working with computers for 55 years and with personal computers for most of that. I have also been providing guidance to BYE and BYN users for over 10 years, even though I am not otherwise affiliated with O'Telescope.

I am glad that your issue is resolved. Perhaps it was caused by some camera setting that the EOS Utility knows about and could reset, but BYE could not.

BTW, the EOS Utility can be running at the same time as BYE but only one at a time can be connected with the camera.
