Can't use may BYE on a second computer

ronaldwellman

Question

When I try to uninstall, re-install, or open my "Bye" software I get this message:  Windows cannot access the specified path, or file.  You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item.  I have two computers, one mini computer on my telescope rig and a laptop.  The laptop works fine, but now I can't access the mini computer Bye program.  I believe I added the new software license to both computers.

Your description of your issue is confusing. You say that you are unable to access BYE on the mini-computer. You also talk about being unable to uninstall, re-install, or open BYE. If you are unable to open BYE, then how did you add your license key to that computer? The dialog form for entering your license key is only available once you have started BYE.

More detailed background information may clear up my confusion.

Is the mini-computer running Windows 8, 10, or 11 and does it have the other pre-requisites, as outlined in the User Guide which is available from the Windows Start menu after BYE is installed?

Well, if you were able to launch BYE and enter your license key and identifier then it is unlikely that re-installing BYE will change anything.

If you were able to enter your license key and it was for a Classic or Premium license you should not have to enter it again. If it is a Trial license then it expires after 30 days.

At what point does BYE fail? Please provide a detailed description of what you are doing and what you are seeing. When you start BYE do you see the main BYE window? Does the Windows Device Manager see the camera when it is plugged in and powered on?

What version of BYE, like 3.2.3? Please provide all of the numbers.

What version of Windows?

What camera model? Is your camera model listed as supported on the Supported Cameras page (click the link in the page footer below)? If the camera model is DIGIC III or later then you need to choose the Canon driver, not the Canon210 driver.

Is the USB cable known to be a good, working cable and is it shorter than 16.5 feet in length?

The more information you can provide, the more quickly your issue can be resolved.
