Put the camera in M (Manual) mode to get shorter exposures.

The above should work, but is not ideal if you are not right at the camera.

My T5i does not have separate M and B shooting modes, so I just put it into Manual mode and BULB is simply another exposure. I understand that for some of the newer cameras with both M and B modes that you can put it into M mode and let BYE switch it to B mode via a USB command. I would try that, but do not know if it will work.

Here is what it looks like with my T5i:

This is with the shooting mode set to M on the rotary dial on the top of the camera. To shoot Tv exposures I choose a value from the Shutter dropdown list. To Shoot longer exposures I select BULB from the dropdown list and enter the desired exposure in the Duration field. I do not need to touch the camera to do this.

A simple test should show whether this will work for you or not. If it doesn't then the issue is with the degree of control that Canon allows, not with BYE. This means that you will need to manually switch between M and B modes as your needs require.

I hope this helps.
