Mirror Lock Error

mike4packers

Question

I'm a new user of BYEOS.  It works with mixed success with my Canon XSi.  I can only do up to 30 second exposures.  When attempting Bulb, extended exposures I get an error about mirror lockup.  This persists whether I select '0' (zero) or some positive number for mirror lock.

Did you check to see if you have mirror lock enabled in your camera menu? It should be OFF.

The XSi requires a serial cable if you want to use mirror lock.  This feature is not possible over straight USB cable.

For the XSi, without a serial cable, you can not use mirror lock.  So the settings for you are...

1) Set in-camera mirror lock OFF

2) Set the mirror lock field in BYE to 0

To get images longer than 30 seconds make sure you set the camera dial to "M" and that you choose BULB in the shutter pulldown in BYE's capture plan center... then enter the desired number of seconds in the duration field.

Keeps us posted, the XSi is a tried, tested, and true camera with BYE and astrophotography.
