New Scope

jimwc6491

Question

anyone

I am looking at buying a new scope and I am seriously looking at a Astro-Tech 10 " RC  (AT10RCT). I have mainly used a Newtonian type scope.

what kind of problems can I expect to overcome with this scope? I guess part of the fun is overcoming obstacles in this hobby, but it would be nice to anticipate any problems that might occur.

thanks

The only significant "Problem" with the RC10 is its Weight - probably about 40lbs all-up once you add even your ST-80 as a GuideScope of the proper Focal Length to match the 2000mm of the AT10RCT.  The CGEM-DX should handle it rather well, especially if the Mount has been HyperTuned (or at least well DIY-Tuned).

Otherwise, I'm filled with Jealousy, as that would be the Scope that I'd opt for if I also upgraded my Mount from the CGEM...

It's a deep space astrograph. Not great for visual or planets, although the moon will look great. I have both the 6" and 8" versions.

You'll probably want a focal reducer. Especially if you have an APC sized sensor.

The collimation is more complicated than a Newt.

thanks for the info the collimation is the only thing I am really worried about. Hotech has a collimator for CT's and they say it works with a RC as well but not cheep.

my mount is hyper tuned by Deep Space Products. I just got rid of my CGE pro tripod and put my CGEM DX mount on a "Pier".

Thanks
