Mirror lock-up

ptrcktrcht52

Question

Dear all,

I discovered this software few days ago.

I use it with a Canon 100D.

When I work in live view mode for focusing, I am able to take a lot of long duration images (tp > 30 s) but with no possibility to store them on my computer or SD card. During the sequence the mirror stay lockup.

But when I use the capturing mode, there is no possibility (or I don't find the solution) to keep the mirror up. We have to use a delay to wait stability after the mirror movement.

Is there a solution to do that? Other softwares dedicated to remote Canon camera (DSLR remote pro from Breeze System) offer this possibility but unfortunally not oriented for astronomy application.

Thanks for your help

Patrick,

Snap images are JPG files that you would take for framing and/or focusing.  They are only useful for that purpose if they are downloaded to the PC. If they are stored in the camera they are not useful for focusing, so that option is not provided.

According to the Camera Support Grid the 100D/SL1 supports MirrorLock via the USB control cable (a second shutter control cable is not needed).  If you want to flip up the mirror, wait for some time and then start imaging you only need to specify a non-zero mirror lock time in the Capture Plan Center on the Imaging screen.

Myself and others have previously posted the recommendation to avoid using mirror lockup when taking long duration photographs. It is not necessary.  Even if there is some vibration from the mirror flipping up, it should only last a very short time.  Any effect of that short period of vibration would be overwhelmed by the subsequent data.  So, BYE does support it, but you will not see any difference in the finished images.

I hope this helps.
