BYE Canon XSi and LCD

HFXRock

Question

My son grabbed a dangling cable that his daddy left for just a half second and the camera went tumbling onto the tile floor.  Camera is working but there are some issues, scratches and such on the sensor glass but If I do some test Darks I am seeing quite a nasty glow from the LCD.  If I press the Disp button it turns off but in BYE (Latest Release) it seems to reset after each sub exposure. It displays the amount of time.  I have an observatory so I go inside when I am shooting, where its warm.

Has anyone else noticed this behaviour?

Jeff

Sorry to hear about your camera :(

This is not an issue with BYE per say as BYE does not control the camera LCD, it fact the is no commands in the SDK to turn it on or off.

On some camera models the is an option (usually in the custom options) to turn set the LCD display ON/OFF.  It it not obvious on some models where the setting is actually a setting to remember the lcd status at start up,  f set to on the camera LCD will remain on or off depending on if it was on or off when you last shutdown the camera.

I suspect this setting (if available on the XSi) is not set.

Hope this helps,

Just a tip (and sorry it's too late in your case) that I got from my local Orion store and try to follow religiously; leave the camera strap on your camera and always hang it over some piece of your scope (e.g. finder, or autoguider) such that if it were to fall out of the focuser the strap will keep it from hitting the ground.

It has saved my camera(s) more than once!

Also I've removed the camera viewfinder guard and put several layers of electrical type over the viewfinder, to prevent light from entering the camera from the rear, during darks, etc.

It was recently pointed out here that there is a "cap" for that on the camera strap as well (I thought it was for holding extra SD cards, which seem to fit in it as well).
