Ability to fire the com port shutter release even if camera doesn't require it

kd4pbs

Question

Just that, I guess...
Many times I have both my 7D and 20D mounted simultaneously; one on the main scope and one on the piggy-backed scope.  It would be wonderful if I could shoot with the 7D using it's ability to release the shutter via USB, as well as all the benefits the USB connection has, and the 20D utilizing the serial port shutter release and it saving to it's card without any other control from BYE...  So if the shutter fires on the 7D, it does at the same time on the 20D, for the same amount of time.  That way, dithering in PHD would not screw up the camera that's running independently when I use BYE on one and a standalone intervalometer on the other, plus both cameras would benefit from dithering.  I was hoping that "Camera force use serial cable" would work, but it doesn't seem to with the 7D hooked in via USB and the 20D connected to the serial port shutter release.

Forget my last post, you already tried that... well sort of.

The force serial cable will force the use of the serial cable for the connected camera, your 7D in your example.  If you want to fire both camera at once you'll need to split a serial cable with 1 computer end and 2 camera ends.  Connect the computer end to the computer and connect each of the camera end of the split serial cable to each camera.  The split serial cable will fire and since it has 2 cameras connected to it both camera will fire.

BUT, I get your point... perhaps the feature suggestion here is fire the USB shutter for the main camera and fire the serial cable simultaneously for the slave camera, the 20D in your example.

Exactly :)

Yep - I did notice that the 20D would fire in force mode, but the 7D wouldn't.  Software implementation would be nice, but I can make cables all day in the interim :)

Thanks, Guylain!

Oh, one more suggestion... don't bother checking disk space if we're saving to the camera card ;)
