BackyardRed - Dual monitor night vision not working, not useable

ChasB

Question

Hello.  We have two identical monitors in the observatory, with the same settings.  But the BackyardRed redscreen can't be used because it dims the screens differently.  When one is just right, the other is too dark or too light.  So I had to go old-school and buy two red acrylic sheets to affix to each monitors.  Can anyone tell me how to get the Backyard Red to work properly on both screens?

This is a monitor color calibration issue at your end.

BYR does *not* alter monitor colors, it simply adds a red semi-transparent borderless window.  If you don't get the same color from the red transparent window it means your monitors are not properly color calibrated.... at least 1 is not.

As I said, the two monitors are identical, bought together, arrived together, and have the same settings.  It seems to me that if they had different  settings - brightness/contrast/HDR vs nonHDR , etc - then when I placed the two identical red acrylic sheets on them and displayed the same exact full screen images on both monitors, the resulting images would be different too. When one showed just right, the other would be either too dark to see anything or way to bright to use at night.

And if the brand new RTX 1660 ti video card was treating one output port differently than the other, when there was no red applied at all, and using during daylight, the identical images would also show a difference, but there is no perceptible difference.  They're equally bright, contrasty, and colorful.

Anyway, the two acrylic sheets do what I need and BYR is unusable.  It worked well when I tested with one screen, but not with two.

Unfortunate.
