Nikon D7100 And D5100

menardre

Question

I just downloaded the BackyardNIKON Beta. I have a Nikon D7100 and D5100.

The D7100 connected flawlessly using just the USB. I tried taking several pictures and found no issues. I will try different combinations of settings/etc.

The D5100 did have some communications issues. It took a couple of attempts to connect. I connect using both the USB and the Shoestrings DSUSB. I had to select the DSUB from the pull down menu in order for the camera to take pictures in BULB mode. I will also try different settings/etc and let you know if I have any problems, but so far the only issue is the initial connection.

Make sure you have next to no images in your camera card.  The Nikon SDK builds an index of images on the card before allowing any camera to connect.  This could be the cause.

The D5100 is one the the mostly tested camera.

I had a lot of problems with my new laptop and connecting with my D5100.  Eventually I got it all worked out and it works fine.  It was a problem with my computer then my DSUSB cable being bad.  I now leave the memory card out of the camera and save images to the default folders on the computer.
