Canon EOS RP connection problem

waynecarnold@gmail.com

Question

I have just downloaded trial version and trying to connect to my camera. This is what I am doing:

  1. Start  backyard eos trial version when connected to internet (a requirement to validate trial key)
  2. I turn on wifi on the camera and connect to computer (I have to open EOS utilities to make the connection)
  3. I quit EOS utilities
  4. I select connect in backyard EOS
  5. log file says  Camera not found

I try again, this time keeping EOS utilities open (I think, but not sure it is needed to maintain pairing with camera to computer).

Again no luck.

Computer is a Surface running windows 10

What am I doing wrong?

Backyard EOS uses the Canon SDK to control the camera. The SDK does not directly support WiFi, so Backyard EOS cannot support WiFi, unless Canon discloses to 3rd party developers how to make it work.

Other users have been able to keep the pairing alive and report that BYE works for them. However, they may have used different camera model(s). You should have some luck searching this Forum for reports from these users. Their procedure(s) may help.

Does the camera connect, if you disable WiFi and connect a USB cable between the camera and the PC? This is the only method that is supported by O'Telescope.

What version number of BYE are you using? BYE 3.1.18 and the pre-release of BYE 3.2.0 are both currently available.
