That’s just the data transfer cable I have that, I can’t control the shutter with that unless there’s something I’m missing. I tried connecting to backyard Nikon when it was connected to the PC but no luck. This is the port that I’m talking about.

It's the same cable.  If you can't control the shutter with the USB cable then it's a setting somewhere.;

That port you are showing is the intervalometer/serial cable.  You don't need that for the D5300.

There is nothing special about the D5300 and shutter release... it uses the same cable for image transfers as it does for the shutter release.   It must be a camera setting somewhere.

Is your camera dial set to manual / bulb?

Thank you, I thought you couldn’t connect it with just that cable. I decided to take out the SD card which is almost full and try again and I was able to connect. I appreciate the help.
