Guylain,

Many thanks for sending me  the key,

That works fine, what happens in 30 days time?

Does this have a cap of 100.

I know that it may seem a lot but it all new to me and setting up the scope/camera/laptop means that I have been opening it many times.

Mainly due to checking usb ports and connections.

But this is currently working fine.

I also obtained one of those cables from Sreve which allows me to have bulb over 30 sec with my D90 and that works fine too.

Many thanks Max

By that time BETA 02f will be release with another extension to the key :)

Hi Guylain,

Hoping you can help - last couple of nights when I've tried to use BYN, the shutter fires, but the image does not download and the program just hangs. I cannot even abort or close it - I need to use task manager to close it. I have tried with and without the SD card inserted with the same effect.

I am seeing this issue in both 'd' and 'e' versions of BYN - I did not experience this issue in the previous versions. I have tried the usual restarting the comp, camera, etc. Any more information or experiments you need me to run, let me know. Logs attached.

I see a download timeout... I also see you have lens connected... Would it be set to auto focus by any chance? ... If the camera tries to focus... but can not... and a download time out occurs... Just a hunch. Remove the lens and try again.

I agree with Steve,no issues since I keep the card out of camera....cut out the middle man.

I looked through the posts and did not see anything, if I missed it, I apologize.

I have been using the Beta with my D300 - works great. Tonight I decided to try and hook up my D3s and had lots of problems

1) It would take a photo, not in bulb mode. But when it was done it would not take any more - seemed to hang.

2) Live View mode - I hear the mirror go up - but nothing comes through.

3) Bulb mode would not work, but then I was using a DSUB cable. I noted in your matrix it needs a serial cable???

4) This was really weird. I disconnected the camera and put my D300 back in. I connected the camera and the Duration drop box was missing. I could not set the duration of the photo in bulb mode - but when I took a picture it used the 15 seconds I had tried with the D3s. Shutting down the application and restarting solved that problem.

It really works well with the D300 though!

Thanks

1) Not sure what happened there <_>

2) This could be cause by 1.

3) The D3s needs a serial cable for BULB and this may have been the source of all issues.

4) If the Nikon SDK was put in a weird state due to 1,2,3 then it is normal that some residue survives disconnecting the 3Ds and connecting the D300.  A restart does reset everything.

Thanks

Hi Guylain,

Here is another trouble with D800.  I set BYN to save to both PC and camera, but I did

not find any images in the camera.  Only PC has the images.

This happened when I triggered the Bulb shutter with DSUSB.  I am using a Y splitter

to also direct the DSUSB shutter signal to an EOS camera.  The same happened there.

After the EOS camera took the picture, the image was transferred to PC via BYE, but

not saved to the camera.

Cheers,

Wei-Hao

Save to camera is not working and probably will not.  I may have to remove this function as the Nikon SDK does not appear to allow saving to camera when tethered to a computer, it forces save to computer only sadly <_>

Thanks for the explanation.  Here is a feature request.  At this moment, we can set the

format of file name.  One option for the file name is to use a sequence number.  It will be

great if we can specify the number of digits and the starting number of that sequence number.

For example, the camera's file names are: DSC_XXXX.NEF.  It will be great if we can ask

BYN to save files using names of DSC_YYYYY.NEF, and YYYYY starts from 10000 (or any number

specified by the user).  This way, the files saved by the camera (without BYN) and by BYN will

never be confused by each other, since the numbers will not be the same.

This is useful because quite often I have to use the camera without BYN.  For example, after

a night of imaging, I will leave the camera running taking dark exposures (using a shutter release

controller) during the astronomical twilight, and taking flat exposures before sunrise.  When the

cameras are still taking darks, I usually would like to shutdown my computer and start packing

my gears, including all the annoying cables.  If I can start packing early, I can go home early.

Because of the need of taking exposures without BYN, it will be great if the files saved by BYN

and saved by the camera itself have similar filename format, while the sequence numbers

do not collide with each other.  I have the same need for BYE too.  However, since whenever I

use BYE, I can always save the images to camera, so the files saved by the camera will never

collide with the files saved by BYE.  So the need for specifying the sequence number is less

critical in the case of BYE.

Cheers,

Wei-Hao

Guylain,

Is BYN BETA 02e supposed to support Mirror-Up mode on the D7000?  I am using a DSUSB-alternative but cannot get BYN to control the mirror properly - just opens shutter and raises mirror together, takes properly timed exposure, then freezes until camera automatically puts the mirror back after the 15 or so second timeout.  I thought this could be controlled by BYN but cannot find out why I thought that now...

Plus when switching shot modes (from mirror-up to single shot for example), the device (assume D700, although could be DSUSB cable) is re-recognised by Windows and the camera takes 4 shots in rapid succession for some reason.

Thanks for your help.
