Nikon D5300 error using NEF 14 bit

ssc10

Question

Hi,

I am having an issue with my Nikon D5300 using NEF recording 14 bits.  However using  same setup and setting NEF recording to 12 bits it works fine.  I used the included USB cable and a longer Nikon USB cable no difference.  BYN version is 2.0.9.  No SD card and saving to PC only RAW.

BYN starts and completes the capture, I see it downloading and then it stops with the error below.   No file is downloaded.

Here's my log file:
01:16:27  Licensed to ssc10
01:16:27  Processor Affinity
01:17:23  Attempting to connect camera...
01:17:23  Nikon/D5300 drivers initialized.
01:17:26  D5300 CONNECTED!
01:17:39  Imaging session started.
01:17:51  Imaging session cancelled
01:17:51  [kNkMAIDResult_ValueOutOfBounds] (kNkMAIDCommand_CapStart, 33560, kNkMAIDDataType_GenericPtr, 355526944)
01:17:51  Imaging session cancelled

My D5300 firmware version is

C:1.01

L 2.016

Please advise.  I would really like to use my D5300 with 14 bit NEF.

Thanks,

Dan

Weird, sounds like a bug in the Nikon SDK since it is returning a value out of bound.

Is the 14 bit set before you actually connect you camera to BYN or is this something you set once teh camera is connected. Not sure if this will make a difference though.

I found it it was the release mode quiet shutter setting causes this strange error.  Once I set it back to single frame, NEF recording in 14 bits works.

A+++.  Thank you for coming back to tell us the solution.
