BYEOS recovery when camera battery dies

STEVE333

Question

Since I am now using a battery to power my camera there is the chance that the battery will run out of power before my imaging session is complete.  I tested this possibility by starting an imaging session and then turning off the camera (to simulate the battery going dead).  I found the following:

1)  When I turned off the camera (to simulate the battery going dead), BYEOS Disconnects from the camera but is still running.

2)  If I leave BYEOS running and turn the camera back on (simulating putting a charged battery into the camera) BYEOS reconnects to the camera and it is still in the Imaging mode.  The Exposures/Shutter/Duration/ISO settings are saved, but, the Start Capture/Loop/Preview buttons are grayed out and are not functional.  Pressing Disconnect and Connect doesn't make the grayed out buttons functional.  Turning off BYEOS and then turning it on again and connecting to the camera fixes everything, but, all camera and session settings are lost.

Will I need to re-enter my session and camera information after replacing the camera battery?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

1) Turning the camera off does not simulate a battery dead scenario.  This is because when you turn the camera off it still fires a camera shutdown event and BYE can detect this event and properly disconnect form the camera.  In contrast when the camera simply runs out of juice it goes dead without firing an event so BYE won't even know that the battery is dead... and it will probably freeze trying to talk to the camera thinking it is still there... but is is not responding.

2) The button should not be greyed out when your turn off/on the camera, this is most likely a bug.  I will look into it.

Regards,
