Backyard EOS 3.1.8 and Canon 40d

k2k2e6

Question

I just downloaded Backyard EOS 3.1.8 to try it out with my Canon 40D. Camera connects properly using USB to the program. However, when I try to take an image, I get the following error. I have googled and read other threads - but nothing seems to help. I have Camera set to M. I have a lens attached EF-S 10-22mm and the lens has a button for AF-MF. I have set that to Manual. I do not think it has a Mirror Lockup function - I did not see it any of the menu items. I am attaching the log file as well.

Not much I can do here, the camera is reporting that it is busy and as a result fails on the take picture command.

2016-11-01 21:12:25,826 [CameraTakePictureOnMessageRecieved] DEBUG - Device Busy trying to start BULB sequence
2016-11-01 21:12:26,031 [CameraTakePictureOnMessageRecieved] ERROR - ERROR EDS_ERR_INTERNAL_ERROR : EDSDK.EdsSendCommand(CameraRef, 2, 0)

- Try without a lens.
- Try with EOS Utility, sometimes this will reset the camera.
- Try removing the camera battery for 5 minutes to completely recycle the camera.

Thanks for the reply. All the issues were user error.

1. I set the camera to bulb mode.

2. I turned on the Live View mode.

Once I did that, all the features started working properly.

Now only problem I have is that Live View in Frame and Focus at night does not give me stars. But if I take a snap of 10 second exposure, stars show up. It is making it hard to do focusing!

1) Make sure live exposure simulation is on (using your camera menu)

2) Use high ISO with live view

Live view is only a few millisecond of data so only the brightest stars will show up.  Slew to a bright star.
