Canon does not make the internal temperature available directly to applications, like BYE, which use the SDK. Instead, if your camera supports it, the sensor temperature value is inserted, by the camera, into the table of values (EXIF data) that is contained within the image. So BYE can get the value by reading the EXIF data parameters after the image has been downloaded to the PC.

It is, however possible for you to configure BYE such that it  will not read the EXIF data. So in order to see the internal temperature the following conditions must be met:

1) The camera must support the Sensor Temperature and put it into the EXIF data (according to the Supported Cameras grid the 50D does this).

2) You must configure BYE to download your images to the PC hard drive because if you choose to store them only to the camera's memory card BYE will not have access to the image or the EXIF data.

3) You must not choose to "Skip READ Exif data" in BYE's advanced settings. My suggestion is to leave "Skip READ Exif data" unchecked unless you are troubleshooting a problem.

Then when you capture an image and BYE has downloaded that image it will read the sensor temperature from the EXIF data and display it in the Camera Information Center and if so configured will also put the temperature value into the name of the image file.

One final suggestion. You should upgrade to BYE 3.1.8 at your earliest convenience. In addition to supporting new cameras it also fixes an issue with the 5X zoom feature that you may see on the Frame & Focus and Planetary screens with BYE 3.1.7. There is no cost for upgrading from 3.1.7 to 3.1.8.
