Nikon Z8 - continuous shooting

momelia

Question

I'm heading out for the eclipse in a few weeks and was wondering if Backyard Nikon supports faster frame rates - seems like setting the camera on single frame or 5fps does the same thing, which is approximately 1fps.  I was trying to get more frames per second as the camera is pretty much vibration free with the electronic shutter.

BYN was designed for deep sky astrophotography. It uses the control capabilities of the Nikon SDK to communicate with the camera. Not all functions that are supported by the camera are exposed to BYN through the Nikon SDK. This has apparently led to some confusion.

When capturing an image with BYN, there is the time that the sensor is collecting photons (the exposure duration) and the time to save the image. It can be saved to either the SD memory card in the camera or downloaded to the PC, displayed on the screen, and saved to the hard drive. This can take from 1 to 6 seconds plus the exposure duration, depending on where the image is saved, the speed of the USB connection, and the speed of the PC's CPU. Only one image at a time is captured, so the term "frame rate" does not apply.

During totality the exposure duration may be a few seconds long, plus some time to store the image to the SD card. Also, because the brightness is changing from moment to monent, successive exposures will have different durations.

If you mean something else by your use of the term "frame rate", please explain in more detail.

My question was for first and third contact where shutter speed would high - anywhere from 1/500 - 1/4000.  That's where I want the camera to be in continuous mode shooting 5 or 10 frames per second.  I can do those manually and during totality can use the plan I already created in BYN for various shutter speeds down to 2 seconds.  Thanks for the feedback

Regards,

Mike
